Brazil's Vale SA, the world's second-largest mining company, has awarded an exploration drilling contract to Ausdrill Zambia. Ausdrill Zambia will begin the drilling program intially using two DRA600 diamond rigs which have been custom built for the Africa conditions.
Production of copper concentrate for Vale at the Lubambe mine in Zambia, which began in October 2012, is expected to lead to an annual output of 45,000 metric tons of concentrate. Copper concentrate is a raw version of commercial copper that is later refined by smelters.
