Our people are our most valuable asset

At the end of June 2009 AMS employed in excess of 1000 African Nationals with less than 5% of our employees being expatriates.

Our on-ground African expertise, both national and expatriate, is combined with the human resources available from within the Ausdrill Group world-wide. This gives us access to and a hand in a pool of knowledge covering all facets of contract mining. This is second to none in the African Region.

From day one we supported and treated seriously our commitment to the training and progression of African Nationals. Our indicative approach has included training abroad, tertiary correspondence and apprenticeship programs.

Some children, nieces and nephews of our employees now work for AMS.

Our employee educational scholarship program has assisted our employees in ensuring their dependents are educated.

Proudly we say that over 100 of our African National employees have themselves gone on to secure employment in the mining industry within various countries of Africa and through-out the world. It is recognized that some of the best in the business are our people and our people are some of the best.

Our apprenticeship programs have trained and qualified over 75 apprentices in a number of trades including maintenance, auto-electrical and fabrication.

In 2009 we kicked off our Graduate Mining Engineer program whereby graduate mining engineers are employed for a two-year program post their tertiary studies. This program ensures that young mining engineers receive valuable hands-on practical training. The program is modeled on successful and similar programs operated in Australia.
